Now is ((stereo))

Partly to annoy people, and partly to add an “Autraliana” feel to the site I’ve added a short looped sound bite. Ten point to anyone that can tell me what it is, and where I sampled if from. (You can turn the sound off, but if you can’t figure out how to do that by yourself then you deserve to listen to it). In other moves to waste your bandwidth I’ve added an animated gif in the top left - mostly likely I’ll get really sick of that in a few days and change it to a flash animation so I can do more interesting, less repetitive things. Then again I might not.

  1. I like the animated gif. I can’t hear the sound, though, as I don’t have a sound card. Does it say ‘not… happy… jan…’? If not, then it probably should

  2. Hmm, the “not… happy… jan…” sound would also be a good one, but Richard has as yet not emailed it to me, so no, but a good guess. As for the graphic, I think it gains a lot by being so simple. It has given me some ideas of where to move the overall style of the site. Which is good, because I’ve really just been trying different things and seeing how they look. (Yes I know your not supposed to do that on a live web site, so).

  3. The sound should rememeber if you turned it off. With a cookie or something. I think I know what the sound is, not sure where it comes from though. Definitely not too intrusive which is good.

  4. It’s a man waving a thick piece of cardboard in the wind. Richard hasn’t sent me Not Happy Jan yet either - the swine.

  5. Hmm, I haven’t ever played with cookies… so I guess this would be an actually useful reason for looking into them. Then again I kind of like the idea of forcing people to turn it off each time. Personally I really like the sound and leave it on (which does strange things when I’m listening to music). And yes, Alan is right about what the sound is, but the question is ‘Which man?’.

  6. Aha, Opera mocks your embedded MP3. I downloaded for a listen anyway. If it’s not the Obvious Man, then I don’t know who it is. Wow, “not supposed to do that on a live web site.” If I had a penny; but you’re hardly, say, ANZ.com. 😉 Incidentally, you can get “not happy Jan” from AudioGalaxy, the world’s best ever music slurpy thing (even nicer than Napster, IMHO).

  7. It is indeed Rolf Harris, as everyone has by now guessed. Although the imagery of Kylie playing the wobbleboard is beautiful. Grumbling about AudioGalaxy which is good in theory, but without an ‘official’ Mac client I’m not thrilled (and what’s worse is they seem to be going out of their way to deliberately break the unofficial Mac client).

  8. Does anyone have access to (or simply just HAVE) the “Not….Happy….Jan!” mp3 mentioned above - I have tried to find it all over bnut with no success.
