Buffy is over

I’m still buzzing from having seen the final episode of season 5 of Buffy. After the build up it is finally good to get to the end, there is a lovely feeling of completeness too it all (even if there was a big fat cliff hanger). Sometime tomorrow I’ll probably come down off this high and be hit hard by the fact that next Tuesday will be a void in my hectic television watching schedule.

  1. Hmm, what do you mean by cliffhanger? I would say it’s only a cliffhanger because we’re already thinking in terms of the story next year. At this point in the story there is no cliffhanger. The story could stop right now and really zing it to JMS… This shouldn’t be a time of yearning, but of reflection.

  2. A time of reflection is a good thing. I have a feeling that Buffy still didn’t ‘get it’ about her gift. Sure she came to an understanding, but I think there is more to it than she realised, more to be explored. I can’t say why, even though the story had a definate end it didn’t feel like it had a finality, more like a new begining, phenoix style. Besides, if this was the end, then there is still one episode missing, the episode where the scooby gang tries to move on with their lives.

  3. Buffy may or may not have ‘got it’, but that doesn’t mean the story has to go on. Sometimes people never get it. For us, I think a lot that can be explored now that we’ve seen the end will actually be found in earlier eps. (This goes for the Scooby Gang, too. (And always remember what the show is called.)) More intriguing to me than what happens with the Scoobs, is the genuine cliffhanger of what happens to Angel. (Notice how Buffy gets a cliffhanger on even seasons? Angel’s had a run of them so far.)
