Universal Scale of Everything (USoE)

Despite my personal opinions to the contrary I have recently become aware that there actually is a Universal Scale of Everything (USoE), on which all things can be rated.
And if the existence of this scale is not enough, it also seems that everyone agrees where thing should go on the scale.
While I’ve witnessed the use of the USoE most recently with movie (‘Harry Potter’, ‘Star Wars II’, ‘The Lord of the Rings’) I’ve have also seen it used with music, formal art, fashion, hairstyles, books, even computer games.
The world is becoming a smaller, more uniform place.
For example, all of my friends have all placed the recent ‘Spiderman’ movie in the section of “piece of crap that should never have been let out of the directors head, and making it was a futile as removing the seeds from a banana” or a score of about ‑2.
I really, really enjoyed Spiderman, I laughed at the funny bits, I cried at the sad bits, I felt empowered as the nerd became a hero, I was impressed by the characters, by the acting, by the story. I refuse to place the movie on the USoE, there is no sense in trying to compare an Action Hollywood Blockbuster with Duchamp ‘Fountain’, or with ‘Gone with the Wind’, or even another Action Hollywood Blockbuster (such as ‘Star Wars II’).
I’m an experiential critter, there is no objectivity here.

Is there a difference between:
thinking that it must be so difficult to be fat but laughing at fat people anyway
and
thinking fat people are funny and laughing at them
and
thinking fat people are funny and not laughing at them
???

I got lost in a place that does not exist

Perhaps I should clarify.
I wasn’t lost. I was just wandering around with out an particular destination in mind, however the place still does not exist.
The place is MYST island. And since my first visit I’ve been inlove with the place.
What is the difference between actually going somewhere and feeling as if you had been there? Its all about experience.

Stop the clock

Things feel different today…
I don’t know why, but today it feel like I’m actually getting things done, rather than just coasting like I seem to have been for the past month or so.
Things have been a little odd since my Grandmothers funural, not surprisingly, but I don’t think that was the cause of my recent wierdness… just a coincedence…
More pressing on my mind lately has been my shockingly bad finnancial situtation. I still seem to be unable to find a good solution. I get the constant feeling that someone is holding me back.

Time: What is it good for?

Ever have one of those days/weeks/months/years where you have a lot to do and instead of just getting it done, you end up doing none of it and watching Ricki Lake instead?
Well, that’s the way I’ve been feeling the past few weeks… bloody annoying.

Star Wars II

Only Star Wars could get me to the cinema at 9:30 on a Saturday morning. Haven’t been to the movies this early in years, but when every other session for the weekend has already sold out what choice did I really have.
Oh, and as for what I thought of it… it was good, better than good, but your talking to a person that didn’t (and still doesn’t) think there was anything much wrong with Episode I

Meanwhile in a parallel universe… again

A grand event, myself and all of my nearest loved ones treked out to Fox Studios to watch the first public screening of “Star Wars — Attack of the Clones”.
This is significant because it is the first change to the tradition for a good few years. Back when the Special Edition came out we all went along to see it at midnight screenings, some dressed up, some didn’t, a fun time was had by all. But since the release of “The Phantom Menace” the cinema which these midnight screenings had occured at had been ‘renovated’ (thou butchered is a better word). It is no longer suited for such festive occasions. So we moved our tradition to the Fox Studios cinema instead. This worked well, the large open area out the front was perfect for being seen to be dressed as Queen Amidala.
There is sometime magical about the crowd you get at a midnight screening. The crowd is alive with energy and excitment, it is the only way to enjoy the Star Wars saga.
Not.
It is a pitty that this is not the way things will play out. Due to the Machiavellian maneuvers of my friends it seems I’ll be lukcy to see the movie in it’s first week. I’m fucking pissed off about this, make no mistake. I fail to understand the events that have transpired to cause this situtation. It feels like I’m being punished by exclusion… so I must have done something wrong… wander what the hell it was?

Inner Narrative

Inner Narrative
I sometimes forget that readers of my blog don’t have access to my inner narrative.
So, a bit of background.
In mid March I started studying, the subject is ‘Digital Media’, which means I’m learning all the stuff I already know about computer based graphics, design and publishing, but this time I’ll actually get the little piece of paper that says I know this stuff (because we all know that 15 years of self taught experience counts for less than fruit-fly shit).
So in the weeks since I started this course I’ve learnt Computer Fundamentals (aka how to turn on a computer), The Internet (aka how to look up porn), Graphics and Publishing (aka now that you’ve had two weeks experience with computers producing a logo, letterhead, bizcard, flyer, cd cover, abstract photoshop art, and a map should be simple) and now where up to 2D Animation.
The business card from a few entries ago was the one that I did for an assignment in class, a mock up, I might use it for other stuff I do in class, but thats it.
I’ll probably end up posting a few things that I do in class and share with the world the fun I’m having.

Pants

I’m rapidly forming the theory that at some time in each persons life their pants will become very important for reasons they can never clearly articulate.
This change seems to be happening to me at the moment.
It started about two months ago when I started to forget to zip up my fly. This has not been concesious mind you, I simply forgot to do something that had been second natrue for over 20 years. Since then I’ve found the number of time that I’ve forgotten to zip my fly has been increasing. And still I can’t explain it.
I never much liked zippered flies anyway, I should look at getting more pants that have button flies.
Its all about pants.
